  • Fractions
    • Top Heavy Fractions
      • 51/2 = 11/2
      • Then write the result on top of the denominator
      • Step 1 - Multiply the whole number by the denominator of the fraction
      • Step 2 - Add that to the numerator
      • 1) 5 x 2 = 10  2) 10+1 = 11  3) 11/2
    • Equivalent Fractions
      • 1/3 = 2/6 = 3/9
      • 1 x 2 = 2        3 x 2 = 6       = 2/6
      • Step 1 - Multiply the numerator and denominator by the same number to find the equivalent fraction.
      • 1 x 4 = 4          3 x 4 = 12    = 4/12
    • Improper to Top Heavy
      • 11/3 = 3 2/3
      • Step 2 - Write down the whole number result
      • Step 1 - Divide the numerator by the denominator
      • Step 3 - Use the remainder as the new numerator over the denominator
      • 11/3 = 3 r2       2/3 = 3 2/3
    • Adding and Subtracting Fractions
      • The most important thing is that the denominators are the same.
        • 1/4 + 3/4 = 4/4
      • If they don't you have to make them the same...
        • 3/5 + 2/3
        • 5x3=15  3x3=9 3x5=15  2x5=10
        • 9/15 + 10/15
        • 19/15
        • 19/15 = 1r4
        • 1 4/15
        • 3/5 + 2/3 = 19/15
        • 3/5 + 2/3 =    1 4/15
