  • Fibres and Fabrics 5
  • Regenerated Fabrics- Environmentally friendly. Made by closed loop process and all waste products are reused. Means less waste, energy, less fossil fuels.
  • Viscose/ Rayon- made from cellulose (waste of wood pulp). Cheap and renewable. Makes a thick liquid polymer that is spun into yarns. Made to be similar to cotton. Have high moisture limit, dyes easily, doesn't shrink, biodegradable
  • Blended with other fibres. In filament yarn, forms good material for lining
  • wrinkles and cannot be machined washed
  • Lyocell- fabric made from tree. It is soft, cool and comfortable. Needs little ironing. Has silk properties but is more like cotton with strength. Produced in 1980's by Courtaulds. Can take dyes better than cotton. Can be hand washed.
  • Acetate- made from wood pulp and cotton fibres. Keeps the body warm as it's a poor conductor of heat. Slightly elastic, not very absorbent, drys quickly, doesn't absorb moisture. Can be dyed, doesn't shrink. Rubbing can make permanent creases. Could melt when ironed
