- parenchyma destroyed, inflammation, fibrosis, anaemia
- Clinical signs
- Sheep
- Sub-acute= late autumn, rapid conditioon loss, anaemia, oedema
- Acute= anaemia, pale mm, weak, hyperalbumin, rapidly fatal
- Chronic= winter/spring, **** blood in bile duct, poor condition, anaemia, hyperalbumin, oedema, chroic scour
- Cattle
- Acute= rare in cattle as fibrous liver
- Subacute = late autumn, poor perfomance, (growth/yeild)
- chronic = similar to sheep, brisket and vental oedema also
- Sheep
- Diagnostics
- PM = fluke in parenchyma and bile duct
- biochem
- AST= not liver specific (skeletal and cardiac)
- GLDH = liver specific elevated in acute disease
- GGT = good indicator bile duct damage
- faecal egg count - only chronic where adults present
- Blood Ab ELISA - only indicated exposure
- Treatment
- Triclabendazole = all stages, sheep and cattle dranch
- nitroxynil = adults only, sheep and cattle, sc injection
- clorsulon= adults only, sheep and cattle sc injection
- oxyclozanide= adults only, sheep and cattle oral
- closantel= adults/ late immature, sheep drench
