    • Physical factors
      • Permeable and porous rock lets water infiltrate through
      • Impermeable rock will result in lots of surface run off.
      • A steep mountain is likely to have lots of surface run off from rainfall.
      • Very dry, wet and frozen soil will not let any water through creating lots of surface run off.
      • Trees intercept water, so more trees less flooding.
    • Human Factors
      • Paved driveways, main reason for flooding.
      • A ploughed field, the troughs in the field act like river channels
      • snowman, as it melts more water will be added to the river.
      • built up areas  means lots of tarmac and paving stones, creating surface run  off meaning the rainfall will reach the river quickly therefore lots of flooding will happen.
