- Enzyme inhibitor = a molecule that attaches to an enzyme that slows it down or stops it working

- this isn't permanent and doesn't change the active sites shape
- The inhibitor is the same shape as the substrate so it can bind to the enzyme reducing the amount of enzyme-substrate complexes formed
- only slows not stops completely
- Non-competitive
- permanent and does change the active site so no enzyme-substrate complexes can be formed
- the inhibitor binds to the enzyme at the allosteric site and changes the shape of it's active site permanently
- this stops completely not slows it down
