- Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde~themes
- The duality of human nature
- this is the two sides of Jekyll
- it also represents how we all have an evil and a good side like Jekyll and hyde
- the good and bad sides in the book are Jekyll and Hyde
- violence
- Hyde portrays a very violent character
- this is shown when Hyde beats Mr Carew to death.
- Hyde is pure evil, therefore we usually associ-ate pure evil with violence.
- The Rational vs. The Irrational
- the rational side of the two men is Jekyll and the irrational is hyde
- the rational side of people is often the side everyone sees but people usually have the irrational side that we don't get to see
- during the Victorian time people always only showed their rational side and repressed their irrational side.
- lack of communicattio-n
- the lack of communication in the novel (for example the characters don't really allow themselves to express their personalities:
- this lack of their communications is the repression of their deepest and darkest secrets.
- this led to Hyde lashing out after being repressed for such a long time (Carew murder case)
- The duality of human nature
