        • Annotations:  repetition of the noun "lesson" shows that Jekyll wants to reassure himself that he wont turn into Hyde becuase he cannot deal with the consequences.

        • Foreshadows the link that Jekyll is Hyde.   Also shows the link that Uttersons subconcious makes that they are the same person, however he represses this thought.

        • Dr Jekyll is old and is a kind man. "slyish cast" could be refering to him hiding something or that he has a darker side to his personality.
