  • Data and Information
    • Coding
      • Is used so that the data takes up less space on creen and in storage and it is easier to check.
      • Example: using an M or F to enter male of female to a system.
    • Encoding
      • Putting data into a specified format so that an ICT system can understand it.
      • Advantages: it compresses data, and the data can be read on different software packages.
      • Image Encoding- images are encoded so that they can be stored on an ICT system. This determines how they are presented.
      • Sound Encoding- sound is encoded so that it can be stored onto an ICT system, else it woul not exist on a computer system.
    • Data- Is meaningless details that lack revelance. In the form of words, numbers, images or sound
    • Information - is data that has been processed, converted to be given a meaning or has been organised in some way.
      • Data- Is meaningless details that lack revelance. In the form of words, numbers, images or sound
      • Effected by: accuracy, hot it is understood, its revelance, how up-to-date it is, the timeliness.
