- They conducted a meta-analysis
- They looked at 32 studies of attachment behaviour
- They looked at 2000 strange situation classifications from 8 countries
- They looked for inter-cultural and intra-cultural differences
- Some of the samples were very small in some some countries but large in others which could have resulted in biased samples
- This is a western techniques for western children so it could have misrepresented children from countries like Japan
- All of the studies were based on the strange situation so the techniques would have been the same in all studies
