    • Based on assumptions of human nature
      • Humans = tendency towards cooperation, sociability and rationalism
        • Prefer to cooperate over compete
        • Individual cannot be understood without ref to soc, behaviour is socially determined
    • Advocate for cooperation based on positive view of human nature
      • Naturally inclined to work together for common good
      • Cooperation reflects idea of common humanity
        • People who cooperate form bonds and channel capabilities of the whole group
    • Competition = wasteful, promotes social divides  + generates conflict
      • Capitalist economic competition encourages people to reject their common humanity
        • Self-centred and belligerent
    • Human motivation can not be driven by just material consideration but also by a moral view of people's soc role
      • People should work hard to improve society because of social responsibility to other
        • Moral incentive to improve rests on accepting common humanity
    • Some material rewards are necessary for the econ to function
      • These should be linked to moral incentives
        • E.g econ growth boosts living standards AND provides the funds for welfare measures
    • Support for interventionist role of state
      • Argue that the state can be used to control econ production + distrib for the better
        • Advocate state intervention for those in need
