Comparing the Commons and Lords
- Lords can delay primary legislation for up to one year, clearly powerfu, tampon tax in 2014
- However, Commons can just bypass this delay, Lords had to accept tax eventually
- Lords is appointed since 1998 act, more likely to stand up to government
- However recentley commons has started to stand up to government as well, two votes of no confidence in the past two years
- The Lords has power to ammend any legislation, heavily ammended Brexit Bill in 2016
- However commons always has final say, Budget 2016 approved by commons not the lords
- The Lords has power to try start any bills, 57 bills introduced…
