  • The computer analogy compares how we process, recall and output information to a computer. During the process we actively use perception, attention and memory thus the mind is compared to a computer hardware and cognitive processes to a computers software.
    • Atkinson and Shiffrin; the multistore model of memory-
      • Proposed that information is input into the brain through the senses then processed and moved to the short term memory. By repeating or rehearsing information it is tranferred to the long term memory, and output when required. Anyinformation not transferred ti the long term memory from the short term memory is forgotten. the short term memory can only hold 7 +/- 2 bits of info.
