- Classical Conditioning
- Unconditioned stimulus (UCS) - any stimulus producing a natural, unlearned response.
- Unconditioned response (UCR) - a response that occurs naturally (reflex).
- Neutral stimulus (NS) - an environmental stimulus that does not itself produce a response.
- Conditioned stimulus (CS) - a stimulus that has been associated with an unconditioned stimulus so that it now produces the same response.
- Conditioned response - a behaviour that is shown in response to a learned stimulus.
- In classical conditioning, learning happens because an association forms between the NS and the UCS. They are repeatedly paired with each other. During these pairings, the NS becomes a CS which can cause a CR.
- Stimulus generalisation - generalising the CR to similar stimulus.
- Discrimination - over a period of time, learning only occurs in response to a specific stimulus.
- Extinction - removal of a behaviour.
- Spontaneous recovery - re-associating the response to the stimulus.
