  • Chemistry C4
    • Line Spectrums
      • Lithium, Li, Red Flame
      • Sodium, Na, Yellow Flame
      • Potassium, K, Lilac Flame
      • Different Elements have different line spectrums
    • The Periodic Table
      • Dobereiner organised it into triads
      • Mendeleev left gaps for new elements to be found
    • Electron Shells
      • 2 electrons in shell 1. 8 in each shell after that.
      • EG: Chlorine = 2,8,7
    • Ionic Bonding
      • Ions are made when atoms gain or lose electrons
      • If it has less than 3 in the outer shell, it loses them
        • They become posotive
      • If it is nearly a full shell it gains electrons
        • It becomes negative
    • Alkali Metals (Group 1)
      • As you go down they become
        • More reactive
        • Higher density
        • Lower melting point
        • Lower boiling point
      • When they react with water they form hydrogen gas.
    • Halogens (Group 7)
      • As you go down they become:
        • Less reactive
        • Higher Melting point
        • Higher boiling point
