- Cell Organelles
- Cell membrane
- The cell surface is made up of two layers of phospholipids
- It is embedded with proteins, such as receptors on the outer surface
- It regulates movement of substances in and out odf the cell
- The membrane seperates itself from external environments
- Most organelles are surrounded by their own membrane
- Nucleus
- Large and round organelle surrounded by a double membrane, called a nuclear envelope
- The nuclear envolope contains large nuclear pores to allow exchange of materials between the nucleus and cytoplasm
- DNA is found in the nucleus
- It contains nucleous, this produces ribsomes
- Ribsomes
- Consists of two subunits, one large and one small
- Made of protein and ribsomal RNA
- They float free or attach to endoplasmic retculum
- Ribsomes are the site of protein synthesis
- Mitochondrion (plural: mitochondria)
- It is a oval shape with a double membrane
- The inner membrane is highly folded in to cristae, which increases surface area
- The matrix is a viscous liquid which contains enzymes
- Cell membrane
