- C3.6 Uses of Alcohols, Carboxylic Acids & Esters
- Esters
- They have sweet/fruity smells. They usually evaporate easily, (volatile). This makes them useful in FLAVOURINGS & PERFUMES
- Alcohols
- Used as FUELS as they give out lots of heat when they burn, (Combustion)
- Mix with lots of compounds making them GOOD SOLVENTS
- ESTERS are made from the reactions between these
- Carboxylic Acids
- Acidic in aqueous solutions
- VINEGAR is dilute Ethanoic Acid
- FIZZY DRINKS contain Citric Acid
- SOAPS & DETERGENTS are made using long chain Carboxylic Acids
