  • C3.6 Uses of Alcohols, Carboxylic Acids & Esters
    • Esters
      • They have sweet/fruity smells. They usually evaporate easily, (volatile). This makes them useful in FLAVOURINGS & PERFUMES
    • Alcohols
      • Used as FUELS as they give out lots of heat when they burn, (Combustion)
      • Mix with lots of compounds making them GOOD SOLVENTS
      • ESTERS are made from the reactions between these
        • Carboxylic Acids
          • Acidic in aqueous solutions
            • VINEGAR is dilute Ethanoic Acid
            • FIZZY DRINKS contain Citric Acid
            • SOAPS & DETERGENTS are made using long chain Carboxylic Acids
