- Buddhists believe all life in whatever form should be respected.
- The Buddha never said who created the world but he did say that knowing the world meant we should look after it.
- Attitudes toward animals
- The kind treatment of animals is supported by loving kindness [metta] and compassion [karuna].
- The 8 fold path teaches Buddhists not to make a living from harming others.
- They may eat meat given as a gift as they were not involved in the killing.
- First moral precept says they shouldn't kill any living thing.
- Views on Human life
- Sanctity of life- more christian then buddhist.
- Every being is valued and has the potential to be reborn.
- Views on Abortion
- Some believe life begins at conception, others at birth.
- If it is better for the mother or child they agree or for a disability. Also for personal choice.
- Views on Euthanasia
- First moral precept, do not harm any living thing.
- Emphasis on persoanl choice.But rebirth means they'd suffer in the next life.
- Helps stop suffering, but could create it.
- The Dalai Lama said best to avoid unless exceptional reason.
- Aftermath of Life
- Death is not a final moment but a transition to the next life.
- Some doubt rebirth.
- In Tibetean Buddhism they believe the person has a choice or enlightenment or a human life.
- The Buddah broke the cycle of enlightenment then died.
- Attitudes to the environment
