    • Types of breast cancer
      • NON-INVASIVE: Develops in breast ducts
        • Does not have the ability to spread
      • INVASIVE: Develops in cells that line the ducts
        • Most common- 80%
      • SECONDARY: Can spread through blood or lymph nodes
      • OTHER TYPES
        • INVASIVE LOBULAR: cells lining the lobules
        • PIAGETS DISEASE OF THE BREASTS
    • Causes
      • AGE: Risk increases as you get older. Most likely to develop >50 and been through menopause
      • FAMILY HISTORY: Not hereditary but certain genes being passed down can increase risk
      • ALCOHOL: >2 drinks per day increases risk
      • BEING TALL: Due to genes and hormones
      • RADIATION: Having previous x-rays, CT scans and radiotherapy increases risk
      • PREVIOUS DIAGNOSIS
      • BREAST DENSITY: The more dense the breast the more glandular tissue
    • Symptoms
      • Lump or thickened tissue in one or both breasts
      • Change in size or shape
      • Dimpling of the skin or the breast
      • Rash on/around ******
      • Change in appearance of ******
      • Pain in breast/armpit
      • Pulled in ******
    • Treatment
      • Surgery
        • Breast conserving surgery
        • Mastectomy
      • Medication
        • Chemotherapy
        • Radiotherapy
      • Lifestyle changes
        • Regular exercise
        • Cut down on smoking or alcohol
        • Get a good nights sleep
        • Develop and maintain a healthy weight
      • Psychological
        • Cancer support groups

    • Diagnosis
      • Mammogram (breast screening)
        • 4 xrays
          • 2 on each breast
          • 2 different angles
        • Breast is compressed between 2 plastic plates
        • Looks for changes in breast tissue
