Fossils are any traces of an animal or a plant that lived long ago.
Fossils can be formed by:
- Preservation of fossils in places where decaying doesn't occur- This is because the conditions are not suitable for the microbes to work.
e.g. Glaciers- too cold Ambers- no oxygen or moisture Peat bogs- too acidic - Casts and impressions- Fossils can form when an organism is buried in soft material like clay. The clay hardens around it and the organism decays away, leaving the cast of it behind. Things like footprints can be pressed into these soft materials…
