What are fossils?
Fossils are the preserved traces or remains of organisms that lived thousands or millions of years ago.
1 of 7
What is the fossil record?
The fossil record in rocks gives us evidence of what the living organisms were like and how they changed over time.
2 of 7
What is evolution?
Evolution is a change over time.
3 of 7
Who do fossils not always form?
Fossils only form if conditions in the ground are suitable (e.g not too acidic)
4 of 7
Why does soft tissue decaying affect the fossil record?
Hard tissue (e.g bones and wood) may fossilise but soft tissue (e.g muscle and leaves) usually decay too quickly to fossillise. Soft tissue forms impression fossils only in very special conditions.

Why are many fossils are yet to be found?
