how many bits are in a
nibble, kilobyte, gigabytes, terabyte and megabyte?
There are 4 bytes in a nibble,1000 bytes in a kilobyte, 1000 kilobytes in a megabyte and 1000 gigabytes in a terabyte
2 of 14
what form does binary code take?
binary code is always in a pattern of 1's and 0's
3 of 14
how does recording music work ?
when music is recorded onto a computer the quality depends on the sampling rate most audio is recorded at 40,000 samples per second

what is a uncompressed sound file?

what is a compressed sound file?
WAV and FLAC are forms of uncompressed digital sound whereas MP3 and WMA are forms of compressed digital sound
5 of 14
what is the difference between uncompressed and compressed digital sound?
uncompressed digital sound is usually higher quality but also requires a much larger file size whereas compressed digital sound usually is of a lower quality and lower file size

there are multiple examples of storage
mediums name 4 of them?
magnetic eg. computer hard drives
optical eg. DVD CD
solid state eg. USB SSD
cloud eg. google drive iCloud
7 of 14
what is a bitmap image ?
it is made up of pixels which each represent
a different colour when multiple pixels are put
together they make up an image
8 of 14
what is a vector image ?
A vector image is not made of pixels instead
it is made of objects such as lines and shapes
this means they can edit each shape individually
9 of 14
What is the difference between vector
images and bitmap images?
bitmap images require much more storage and
it isn't possible to change the size of bitmap images as it will cause pixelation which will cause
the pixels on the screen will become blocks

their are multiple types of image compression
name the three types ?
PNG files, JPEG files and GIF's
11 of 14
what is a PNG file ?
A PNG file is a type of lossless compression it is often used when an image requires multiple layers to be kept separately from each other it contains high quality images
12 of 14
What is a JPEG file ?
JPEG files are used for digital camera images as they have fairly small file sizes with a relatively high quality in comparison
13 of 14
What is a GIF ?
GIF's are images compressed to a maximum of 8 bit colour depth so it isn't suitable for high quality photos, GIF's can be used for animated images as moving image files
