What does mitosis produce?
2 genetically identical daughter cells
1 of 12
Why is it important? 4
Growth, cloning, asexual reproduction + repair of damaged cells
2 of 12
What are the 5 parts?
Late Interphase, Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase + Telophase
3 of 12
What is late interphase?
DNA has replicated, Nuclear membrane is intact and the nucleolous is visible, Chromosone duplication
4 of 12
What is prophase?
chromosones become visible, shorter + thicker, towards the end nuclear membrane disappears
5 of 12
What is metaphase?
The spindle fibres attrach to the centrimeres + chromosones align on the cell's center
6 of 12
What is anaphase?
spindle fibres contract pulling the sister chromatids apart, chromatids move to opposite ends of the cell, requires ATP
7 of 12
What is Telophase?
Nuclear membrane reforms around the chromosones at each pole
8 of 12
What is Cytokinesis -part of telophase?
Splitting of cytoplasm to produce 2 genetically identical daughter cells
9 of 12
What are the 4 parts of the cell cycle?
G1, S, G2 + mitosis.
10 of 12
What is the interphase part of the cycle?
G1 - Cell growth + protein production. / S - synthesis + DNA replication / G2 - Cell prepares for mitosis.
11 of 12
How long is the cell cyclefor a human?
24 hours
