Holmes has great mood swings but now that he has a case to solve he is over the moon BLACKEST- adjective emphasises how dark his mood can get (LINK - what else is their to live for)

tension is rising as an audience we have faith that Holmes knows what is happening so the fact he has his REVOLVER makes us more anxious than before
