What is the use of paper in this poem?
to highlight the fragility of man's power and the true power. Paper symbolises man kind- both fragile and powerful

What can tissue symbolise?
Tissue is thin paper but also what humans are made of. This shows that humans (and human power) is fragile like tissue paper

'Paper that lets the light shine through, this is what could alter things'
Thin paper can change things- it has power. Also the 'light' could shine the truth OR could be a religious reference to Jesus/God that has power.

'If buildings were paper, I might feel their drift, see how easily they fall'
In the real world, paper/man isn't powerful- you wouldn't build a building out of it.

'Maps too, the sun shines through their boarder lines'
paper/man has power when it is used to divide and mark out, to segregate and order- maybe relate Imtiaz being immigrant

'paid by credit card might fly our lives like paper kites'
paper/man seems to have power in money and finance but its all an illusion

'but let the daylight break through capitals and monoliths'
let the buildings be made of paper so light can shine on government. Again, nature has the power to shine through man made creations.

'with living tissue, raise a structure never meant to last'
with human skin create something fragile and understand it is never meant to last- like power

what does the metaphor 'fly like paper kites' suggest?
Shows that money dominates, controls us and has power. Receipts are man made and hence not permanent, unlike the power if nature

The ending is separated to emphasise its importance

How is the poem a conflict poem?
we cause our own conflict by giving things power that are undeserving of it. Eg money, religion, government. If we woke up and treated everything like tissue paper we would be happier.
