Throughfall
Water dripping from one plant or leaf to another.
1 of 23
Surface Runoff
Water that is over land.
2 of 23
Channel Storage
Water that is in a river or stream.
3 of 23
Water Table
Top surface of Zone of Saturation - the zone of soil of rock where pores are full of water.
4 of 23
Groundwater Storage
Water in the ground either in soil(soil moisture) or rocks.
5 of 23
Surface Storage
Water in puddles, lakes or ponds.
6 of 23
Vegetation Storage
Water that is taken up by plants
7 of 23
Interception
When precipitation lands on vegetation , buildings or concrete or tarmac before it reaches the soil.Interception storage is only temporary as the water quickly evaporates.
8 of 23
Precipitation
All the ways that moisture comes out of the atmosphere. Mainly rain but can also be snow , hail, dew or frost
9 of 23
Stemflow
Water which runs down the sides of plant stems or tree trunks
10 of 23
Through flow
Water moving slowly downhill through the soil
11 of 23
Infiltration
Water soaking into the soil
12 of 23
Percolation
Water seeping down through the soil towards the water table
13 of 23
Groundwater Flow
Water flowing slowly below the water table through permeable rock
14 of 23
Baseflow
Water that feeds into streams or rivers via river banks and river beds
15 of 23
Interflow
Water flowing downhill above the water table through permeable rock
16 of 23
Channel Flow
Water flowing into the stream or river itself
17 of 23
Evaporation
Water turning into water vapour
18 of 23
Transpiration
Plants and trees take up water , transport it to their leaves and the evaporates into the atmosphere
19 of 23
Evapotranspiration
The process of evaporation and transpiration together
20 of 23
River Discharge
Another output
21 of 23
Potential Evapotranspiration
How much water could be lost due to evapotranspiration
22 of 23
Actual Evapotranspiration
How much water is actually happens as a result of evapotranspiration
