The genetic link to aggression (Short)

?
How does this theory explain aggression? (AO1)
it suggests that aggressive behvaiour is inherited via genes which ultimately leads to the behaviour
1 of 10
How does the closeness of the relationship effect the liklihood of inheriting aggression? (AO1)
the closer the relationship the stronger the inherited tendency will be.
2 of 10
Why is the theory biologically determinist? (IDA)
because it suggests that genes are solely responsible for aggressive behviour,
3 of 10
What are the implications of the theory being biologically determinist? (IDA)
it leaves people thinking that they cannot control their aggressive behaviour as it is in their genes and as a result removes blame from that individual.
4 of 10
Name two pieces of supporting research for the theory
McGuffin and Gottesman, Hutchings and Medrick
5 of 10
How does McGuffin support the theory?
they found a higher concordance rate for aggression between the MZ twins than the DZ twins. showing that the closer the genetic relationship the more likely you will inherit the aggressive tendency
6 of 10
What was an issue with the McGuffin research?
although there was a higher concordance rate it was not 100%, demonstrating that other factors were involved such as nurture.
7 of 10
How Does Hutchings support the theory?
they found a correlation between the aggression levels in the birth parents and the children. this shows it was unlikely to be affected by the adoptive parents via nurturing.
8 of 10
What was a flaw in the McGuffin research? (AO3)
it didnt consider that MZ twins are treated more alike than DZ twins and that this could have led to the similarities in aggressive behaviour
9 of 10
Wider evalutaion - What theory may be better than genes?
the social learning theory, there is limited research for the genetic theory but lots of supporting evidence for the SLT.
