The digestive system

?
what does the digestive system do?
The digestive system will break down food in order for it to be absorbed into the body.
1 of 27
where is the food absorbed into the bodies?
the small intestine is where food is absorbed.
2 of 27
what will the small intestine produce?
they will produce digestive enzymes.
3 of 27
what are the 3 types of enzymes?
protease, lipease and amylase.
4 of 27
what do the digestive enzymes do?
they will break down big molecules into smaller ones.
5 of 27
what does the enzyme amylase do?
amylase enzymes will digest starch and sugars in the body.
6 of 27
what does the enzyme protease do?
protease will digest protein and will convert them into amino acids.
7 of 27
what does the enzymes lipase do?
lipase will digest fat and convert them into fatty acids and glycerol.
8 of 27
what does saliva do and where is it made?
saliva is made in the salivary glands and coats chewed up food with amylase enzyme.
9 of 27
what does mucus do?
mucus is a slimy substance which will help the food be swallowed.
10 of 27
what is the Oesophagus?
the Oesophagus is a tube where food pass down in order to get to the stomach.
11 of 27
what do the muscles do in the Oesophagus?
the muscles will contract and relax in order for the food to be pushed down.
12 of 27
what does the stomach do?
the stomach is a muscular bag which holds up to 2 liters of food.
13 of 27
what enzyme does the stomach have in it?
pro tease is the enzyme that is in the stomach.
14 of 27
what is the reason why hydrocholric acid is in the stomach?
because protease enzyme will prefer to be in an acid PH.
15 of 27
what is the other reason why hydrocholric acid is in the stomach?
because it will kill any bacteria that is in the stomach as bacteria can damage the immune system.
16 of 27
what do the walls of the stomach help to do?
the will help to churn up food with the hydrocholric acid in order for it to become a runny liquid .
17 of 27
where does the runny liquid go to?
the runny liquid will then pass into then small intestine.
18 of 27
what 3 digestive enzymes does the small intestine have?
the small intestine has carbohydrases, proteases, lipeases.
19 of 27
what is the 1st important thing about villi?
villi has a very big surface area so food can be absorbed into the bloodstream.
20 of 27
what is the 2nd important thing about villi?
villi has a single layer of surface cell so that food is able to be diffused over a short distance very quickly.
21 of 27
what is the 3rd important thing about villi?
they will have a large network of capillaries so absorbation is very quick.
22 of 27
what does the liver produce?
the liver produces bile.
23 of 27
name one thing that bile does?
bile will neutralize hydrocholric acid which is in the stomach.
24 of 27
name another thing bile does?
bile will also break down big molecules of fat and break them into smaller ones.
25 of 27
where is bile stored and where does it get released into?
bile is stored in the gall bladder and will be released into the small intestine.
26 of 27
name the last thing bile does?
