The Prelude context
William Wordsworth was a poet from the lake district.'The prelude' is an autoiographical poem- it explores key moments and experience in Wordworth's life. It was published shortly after his death in 1850.

"Confident Language"& "simile"- The natural simile shows that he's confident and in control. Enhances the contrast with the next line.

"Oxymoron"- hints at the narrator's guilt.

"Fearful Language"& "Repetition"- of a sibilant sounds creates a sinister mood.

"The horizon's bound, a huge peak, black and huge"
"Dramatic Language"- A mountain appears on the horizon. Very different language now- darker and more threatening.

"Leaving... still... small... until... melted... all... light..."
"Beautiful Language" - The succession of "L" sounds helps the poem flow, like a boat moving gently across the lake.
