What is the role of judges?

What does the Rule of Law mean?
State should govern citizens in accordance with rules agreed upon.

What does Judicial Review mean?
High Court oversees decisions of public bodies, officials, local authorities, and members of Executive - ascertain whether body had power to make decision.

What are Declarations of Incompatibility?
Under s.4 HRA 1998. Gives senior judges power to question compatibility of legislation with human rights. Sent to parliament. Judges not allowed to strike out laws.

What does Separation of Powers mean?
State power divided: Executive, Judicial, Legislative. Exercised by different people/body.
