1 of 9
What is meant by the term Reference Strand?
A strand of DNA that mRNA uses as a template in transcription
2 of 9
What is meant by the term triplet code?
a group of 3 bases in a DNA molecule that code for 1 amino acid
3 of 9
What is meant by the code is degenerate?
a given amino acid maybe coded for by more than one codon
4 of 9
What is mean by the code is non-overlapping?
each codon codes for one amino acid
5 of 9
what is meant by the term 'stop codon'?
a codon that does not code for an amino acid, but instead indicates the end of a polypeptide chain
6 of 9
what is meant by the code is almost universal?
the same sequences of bases, code for the same amino acids in all organisms
7 of 9
What evidence is there to suggest that the genetic code evolved early on?
it is almost universal
