Clues

  • differ in the amino acid sequences at antigen-binding site, responsible for diversity (8, 7)
  • inoculation with antigenic proteins, pathogen fragments, or other molecular antigens (12)
  • once exposed to a pathogen, immune system remembers it, future responses much more rapid (13, 6)
  • plasma cells, produce antibodies (8, 1, 5)
  • present on antigen presenting cells and present antigens processed in phagocytic pathway (5, 2, 3, 8)
  • present on the surface of every nucleated cell in animals and present antigens from intracellular pathogens (5, 1, 3, 8)
  • produces two types of daughter cells, effector and memory (9, 10)
  • proteins called immunoglobins, composed of one or more tetramers consisting of four polypeptide chains, two identical light chains and two identical heavy chains, disulfide bonds hold the chains together (8, 9)
  • release cytokines (8, 1, 5)
  • similar among the immunoglobins and determine the class of the antibody (8, 7)
