What are earthquakes and volcanic eruptions a result of?
Geological/physical processes.
1 of 10
What is the theory of plate tectonics?
The Earth's crust is divided into 7 main large slabs called tectonic plates which have movement.
2 of 10
What are the two type of crusts called?
Oceanic (thinner, more dense)
Continental (thicker, less dense)
3 of 10
Where do earthquakes occur?
They occur at all type of plate margins.
4 of 10
Where do volcanoes occur?
They occur at destructive and constructive plate margins only.
5 of 10
What is the 'Ring of Fire'?
A group of volcanoes that are located along
the plate margin of the Pacific plate and is
where a lot of volcanic activity occurs.
6 of 10
What are the three plate margins called?
Destructive
Constructive
Conservative
7 of 10
What happens at a destructive margin?
-Two plates move towards each other
-Oceanic plate subducts under continental plate forming volcanoes
-When two continental plates move towards each other the ground is folded upwards creating
fold mountains.
8 of 10
What happens at a constructive margin?
-Two plates move away from each other
-Magma rises into gap, cools and forms new
crust
9 of 10
What is happening at a conservative margin?
-Two plates moving sideways past each other/ same direction at different speeds.
-Crust isn't created or destroyed.
