Conformity
A type of social influence involving a change in behaviour or in beliefs, in order to fit in with a group. This change will be in response to real (pressure of others) or imagined (social norms/standards) group pressure.

Compliance
Individuals go along with a group to gain their approval. Exposed to views of the majority individuals may start social comparison, focusing on what others say or do so that they can change their own opinions to fit in with them. Public, short term.

Identification
Individual wants to be accepted by another person or by group, by adopting groups attitudes & behaviour they feel more part of the group. Identification has aspects of comp & intern. Individual accepts attitudes as right & true, reason is to fit in.

Internalisation
ndividuals may go along with the group because of acceptance of their views. When exposed to views of member of a group, individuals are encouraged to engage in validation- examining their own beliefs to see if they or others are right. Close examina
