What is the amplitude?
the distance from the middle line to the top of the wave (crest)
1 of 8
What is the wavelength?
length of a full cycle of the wave (from crest to crest)
2 of 8
What is the frequency of a wave?/
the number of complete cycles or oscillations passing a certain point per second.
3 of 8
What is the frequency of a wave measured in?
hertz (Hz) 1 hz is one wave per second.
4 of 8
How do waves travel?
Waves travel in straight lines through whatever they are travelling through. When they meet an obstacle or a new material their direction changes. This can happen by reflection, refraction and diffraction.
5 of 8
What is reflection?
It is what helps us see obects. When a beam of light reflects of an uneven surface, it relects of at different angles. Reflects off an even surface, same angle.
6 of 8
Law of reflection?
Angle of INCIDENCE = Angle of REFLECTION
7 of 8
What is total internal reflection?
happens when the light ray travels through a dense material towards a less dense substance. if the angle of incidence is big enough (bigger than critical angle) the ray doesnt come out at all, but reflects back into the material.
