Kornilov tried to march on Petrograd, so Kerensky (prime minister) armed the Bolshevik army so they could stop him. They were successful.

Consequences of the Kornilov Revolt?
The PG looked very weak, but the Bolsheviks now looked like heroes. They were also now armed.

Why did the revolution happen in October? 2 main reasons
1, Morale and reputation high after Kornilov revolt, 2, Zinoviev and Kamenev published that a revolution was being planned so Lenin had to act before Kerensky could prepare.

Oct 23, Trotsky and MRC got control of Petrograd garrison, set up HQ in Smolny Institute. Oct 25, Bolsheviks storm winter palace and arrest PG. Nov 8, Power given to Lenin.
