Variable (in general)
A variable is anything that can change and can therefore have more than one value

Independent variable
(The one you change) the independent variables are the variables that we believe will cause a change to another variable.

Dependent variables are variables that we measure.

Confounding variables are variables that could cause a change to the dependent variable, even though we do not want them to.
