Language that is unclear and ambiguous.- John is right- this is ambiguous because the statement is too wide and unspecified.

A rule associated with Flew- the meaningfulness of a statement lies within it's falseification. - Anything that can not be falseified is empty in meaning.

Non-Cognitive
The idea that religious language's function is not to inform.It is more connected to an emotion.

Hare- a frame of reference by which everything is interpreted' tunnel vision'.

Hick- some statements will be proved true after death- life after death.

Latin for 'negative way' Attempts to talk about God in a negative way, only saying what he is NOT.

Analogical view of religious language
Aquinas- Descriptive terms when applied to God mean neither the same or something completely different then when applied to humanity.

Analogy
The comparison between two things when a similarity is suggested by the use of the same word.- 'a good book' and a 'good dog'- Good is not used in the same way but there is a similarity.

Metaphors
A word or phrase used to describe something entirely different from the object or idea of which it is usually linked.

Things that stand, or are inplace of another things-words- replaced by- images

Symbolic
A view of religious language which see the words representing the reality to which they point. which they can not describe- Tillich

'image generators'.-They are distinct from the actual image they generate . Jung gave this words to the part of the psyche which creates these images.

Stories designed to resolve philosophical or religious problems or dilemmas.

Aetiological Myths
aetiology is the study of how things come about and are caused- added to myths they seek to explain and understand and explain the origins if the universe and its components.

Wittgenstein- The users of the language are governed by the rules, as games are governed by rules- swimming and trampolining terms.
