Reaction of Acids.

?
Which metals react with acids?
Magnesium, Sodium, Zinc, Aluminium, Potassium.
1 of 10
How do you know a metal has fully reacted with an acid?
It fizzes and hydrogen gas is produced.
2 of 10
Why will iron react with an acid and copper won't?
Iron is more reactive than hydrogen and copper is less reactive than hydrogen. It will displace the hydrogen in the acid.
3 of 10
How do you test for hydrogen?
Ignite gas with a lit splint, produces a squeaky pop if hydrogen is present.
4 of 10
What is a salt?
The general name for a compound formed when the hydrogen in an acid is wholly or partially replaced by metal ions.
5 of 10
What is MASH?
metal+acid=salt+hydrogen
6 of 10
What is an alkali?
Something that can neutralise an acid. Soluble in water. A type of base.
7 of 10
What is a base?
A compound that neutralises an acid, not soluble in water.
8 of 10
What is BAWS?
base+acid=water+salt
9 of 10
What are salts made up of?
