Why are microscopes so useful?
They allow us to see objects in more detail. Therefore we can use them to learn about the structure and the function of cells- of which organisms are made.

The lens magnifies the object.

The cell membrane seperates the contents of the cell and its surroundings. It is responsible to letting substances such as oxygen, carbon dioxide and glucose moving in and out of the cell.

Because they are cery tiny and they need a high magnification of light.

Why did our knowledge of the structure inside cells only develop after microscopes were invented?
Cells are small, and so the inside of the cells are very tiny. Therefore we were unable to see what the structure was like as we were unable to see them before microscopes were invented.

They both have: a cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus and mitochondria.

What are the differences between animal cells and plant cells?
Plant cells also have: a large vacuole, a cellulose cell wall and chloroplasts.

Why are these features only found in plant cells?
Plant cells need the cellulose cell wall and the large vacuole to help support itself, they need the chloroplasts as they contain chlorophyll- a vital green chemical which store light energy needed for photosynthesis.
