Lets light through to the palisade layer. 1 of 6 Palisade Mesophyll Tissue This has lots of chloroplasts. They are near the top of the leaf to get more light 2 of 6 Spongy Mesophyll Tissue This contains air spaces which increase the rate of diffusion of gases. 3 of 6 Stomata These let gases diffuse into and out of the leaf. They are opened and closed in response to the environment. They are controlled by the guard cells. 4 of 6 Meristem Tissue This is found at the growing tips of shoots and roots 5 of 6 Xylem and Phloem These bring water and nutrients to the leaf and take away glucose produced by photosynthesis.
