?
On a distance-time graph, what does a flat line represent?
When something has stopped
1 of 13
On a speed-time graph, what does a flat line represent?
Steady speed
2 of 13
What is the difference between speed and velocity?
Speed shows how fast something is going, velocity shows the speed and direction of an object.
3 of 13
What is the difference between mass and weight?
Mass is just the amount of "stuff" in an object and is measured in kg. Weight is caused by the pull of gravity and is measured in Newtons
4 of 13
If a car was going at a steady speed, would the forces be balanced?
Yes, if the forces were unbalanced then the car would be accelerating or deccelerating
5 of 13
Describe the effect on the top speed of a car if a roof box was added.
The top speed would decrease as there would be more drag.
6 of 13
What is terminal speed?
When the resistant force( friction or drag) is equal to the accelerating force( weight or thrust) so that it cant accelerate any more.It has reached its terminal speed
7 of 13
What two factors affect thinking distance?
1) How fast your going 2)How dopey you are(eg tiredness drugs alcohol)
8 of 13
What factors affect braking distance?
1)How fast your going 2)How good your brakes are 3)How good the grip is from the road surface and tires
9 of 13
If speed doubles, what happens to the braking distance?
It increases 4-fold(2 squared)
10 of 13
Explain how seat belts and crumple zones are useful in a crash
Crumple zones crumple and change shape on impact, increasing the time taken for the car to stop. Seat belts stretch slightly, increasing the time taken for the wearer to stop. This reduces the forces acting on a chest.
11 of 13
How to ABS bakes make driving safer?
ABS breaks automatically pump on and off to stop the wheels locking an d preventing skidding.
12 of 13
What is gravitational potential energy?
It is the energy that something has because of its height above the ground. The energy used to raise it is stored and can be changed to kinetic energy if it falls.
