why did mendeleev leave gaps in his periodic table?
for undiscovered elements
1 of 14
how did Mendeleev order his periodic table?
in order of atomic mass
2 of 14
how is the modern periodic table ordered?
in order of atomic number
3 of 14
what is Newlands law?
the law of octaves- every eight element had the same reactivty
4 of 14
how are Mendeleev and Newlands period tables the same?
they both ordered it by atomic weight
5 of 14
how are Mendelev and Newlands period tables differant?
1) Mendeleev left gaps but Newland didnt 2) Newlands has the rule that every 8th element has the same reactivty but Mendeleevs table showed that elements in the same groupa has similar properties

name 3 alkali metals?
Lithium, Frencium, Potassium, Sodium, Cassium, Rubidium,
7 of 14
what happens to lithium when it is put into water?
it fizzes and releases Hydrogen
8 of 14
what is the chemical formula for when Lithium reacts with water?balanced?
2Li(s) + 2H2O(l) → 2LiOH(aq) + H2(g)
9 of 14
what is the test for Hydrogen?
Squeaky pop
10 of 14
what happens to Sodium when it reactes with water?
it fizzes and moves around in a ball and releases Hydrogen
11 of 14
what happens to Pottasium when it reacts with water?
it creates purple flame as the Hydrogen has ignited
12 of 14
what happens to the reactiviy of the alkali metals as you move down the periodic table
the reactivity increases
13 of 14
why is Lithium less reactive than Francium?
Litium has more attraction to the nucleaus as they is less sheilding so it is hard to break the bond between the outershell and the nucleus. Francium has less electrostatic force of attraction to the nuclease as there is more shielding.
