The definition of Osmosis?
Movement of water molecules from a high water potential to a lower water potential through a partially permeable membrane.

How do Osmosis work?
Water will always flow in the direction that will dilute the more concentrated side, until the concentration is the same on both sides.
The water will flow from a high water potential to a low water potential.

How does the Turgor Pressure works?
When water moves into a plant cell the vacuole
gets bigger. The vacuole then pushes against the
cell making it rigid and firm. The cell then stops too much water entering the cell so that the cell won't burst.

The plant will wilts and cannot remain turgid.

When a cell loses too much water.

When a plant is plasmolyse, the inside of the cells
will:
1) shrink
2) the cell membrane pulls away from the cell
wall.

distilled water?
The cell become Turgid.
The cell is rigid and firm.
There is a high pressure inside the cells.
The cell wall will prevent the cell from bursting.
The tugor pressure makes the leaves and stem firm and upright.

The cells will become flaccid

The plant cells will become Plasmolyse.

How does the uptake of water by plants work
through osmosis?
The plant roots are surrounded by soil water.
The roots have a lower water potential but have more minerals than the soil water.
The soil water then enters the roots to dilute
the concentration of minerals.

and tissues work through osmosis?
Animal cells do not have a cell wall.
Through osmosis the cells will gain or lose
water.
