Why are acyl chlorides more reactive with alcohols than carboxylic acids?
Cl- is a better leaving group, Carbonyl carbon is more positive, C-Cl bond is weaker than C-O bond.
1 of 5
Which direction is the water in a Leibig condensor?
Water in through bottom and out through the top.
2 of 5
What happens when H atoms absorb Radio waves in NMR?
Protons have a magnetic field/ spin. They are aligned with the external magnetic field. Which flip when radio waves are absorbed to align against the magnetic field.
3 of 5
What property determines whether butanoic acid or propane-1,2,3-triol would
move faster through the chromatography column?
Solubility (in liquid / stationary phase)
4 of 5
Equation for acid hydrolysis of propanenitrile
CH3CH2CN + HCl + H2O -> CH3CH2COOH + NH4Cl
