Organelles

?
Nucleus
Contains DNA, double membrane containing the nucleolus, found only in plant and animal cells (eukaryotic)
1 of 15
Nucleolus
RNA us made here, no membrane but is made up of protein and nucleic acids
2 of 15
Nuclear envelope and pore
Allows materials in and out of the nucleus
3 of 15
Ribosomes
Site of protein synthesis, reads information from the mRNA and puts specific amino acids in the correct order for a protein. Made up of two subunits, made up of mRNA and protein (no membrane). Found in all types of cells (eukaryotic and prokaryotic)
4 of 15
Rough endoplasmic reticulum
Transports proteins made my the ribosomes (on its surface) to Golgi apparatus. A series of flattened sacs surrounded by membrane. Found in eukaryotic cells.
5 of 15
Smooth endoplasmic reticulum
Involved in lipid production, series of flattened sacs surrounded by membrane
6 of 15
Golgi apparatus
Packages and processes proteins, adds a carbon hydrate group. Builds lysosomes. Series of membranes surrounding fluid containing proteins, sugars and enzymes.
7 of 15
Centrioles
Form spindle during cell division, small tubes of protein fibres found in pairs near the nucleus in animal cells (only found in animal cells)
8 of 15
Flagella
Movement by rotation, composed of microtubules
9 of 15
Cilia
Movement of fluid across cell surface, major projections from cell surface, made up of microtubules
10 of 15
Mitochondria
Site of aerobic respiration, double membrane organelle
11 of 15
Lysosome
Breaks down dead material inside the cell, specialised vesicle filled with enzymes
12 of 15
Cellulose cell wall
Thick wall to provide support for the plant cell and prevent it from bursting, keeps shape of the plant, made up of cellulose fibres
13 of 15
Plasmdoesmata
Only allows certain substances to move in or out of a cell
14 of 15
Large permanent vacuole
Store materials and maintain internal turgor pressure for a plant, only temporary vesicles found in animal cells
