What is Mitosis?
It's the cell division that happens in the body cells.

What is a body cell?
Its any cell except those that produce gametes. (sex cells)

What is a parent cell?
The cell that divides.

What is the parent cell called?
The parent cell is a diploid cell. This means it has two sets of chromosomes.

What happens before the parent cell divides?
Each chromosome is copied exactly.

What does the parent cell divide to form?
It forms two daughter cells. Each of these gets one copy of each chromosomes. The daughter cells are genetically identical to each other and the parent cells. They are also diploid cells.

Why is Mitosis used to make new body cells?
Growth, repairing damaged parts of the body and asexual reproduction.

What is asexual reproduction and when is it used?
It is the production of new organisms without fertilisation, such as when bacteria split in two to make more bacteria, and when plants make new plantlets that splits off from the parent plant to grow on their own.

What is ferilisation?
Fertilisation is when a male gamete (sex cell) combines with a female gamete to produce a zygote.

What are gametes?
Gametes are haploid cells. They have only one set of chromosome.

What is a zygote?
When the Sperm cell and Eggs cells come together, both only with 23 chromosomes in each gamete. The gametes fuse at fertilisation. A zygote is formed, which has one set of chromosomes (23) from the mother and one set (23) from the father.

When does Meiosis happen?
It happens when a diploid cell divides to produce haploid gametes. (sex cells)
