What happens during interphase?
The cell is preparing to divide, the DNA replicates, cellular organelles double in number and protein synthesis occurs. It includes three phases: G1, S and G2
1 of 6
Mitosis: What happens during prophase?
The chromosomes condense and spindle fibres form
2 of 6
Mitosis: What happens during metaphase?
Chromosomes line up in middle along the equator; spindle fibres attach to chromosomes; centrioles move to opposite ends of the cell.
3 of 6
Mitosis: What happens during anaphase?
Centromeres separate as sister chromatids pulled towards opposite sides of cell by spindle fibres.
4 of 6
Mitosis: What happens during telophase?
2 new daughter cells formed that are genetically identical to each other and the parent cell; the nuclear envelope reforms.
5 of 6
What happens in cytokenesis?
The process of cell division which divides the cytoplasm of a parent cell into the two new daughter cells.
