C = galactosaemia, GI perforation, lactose intolerance

S.E = Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhoea, Flatulence, Abdominal Pain
T = Fluid loss, hypokalemia, hypernatremia

Lactulose:
Mechanism of Action?
M.o.A = broken down into organic acids (fatty acid metabolites, hydrogen, methane), increases water content in stool/stool softening, increases bowel movement frequency

Lactulose:
Absorption? Distribution?
A = <3% absorbed by small intestine, negligible amounts of metabolites absorbed by large intestine
D = Negligible amounts absorbed into body, majority remains around GI tract

Lactulose:
Metabolism? Elimination?
M = if saccharolytic bacteria present in large intestine, then metabolised into lactic+acetic+formic acid (ie E.Coli)
E = majority via stool. <3% renal within 24 hours.
