What is it?
It can be defined as 'the downslope movement of material under the influence of gravity'. Many instances of this can occur very suddenly (within minutes), and are triggered by undercutting by wave action at the base of the cliff.

Rock fall, rock slides, rock toppling and rotational slides and slumps.

Blocks of rock, dislodged by weathering, fall to the cliff foot.

Blocks of rock slide down the cliff face, especially where rocks are dipping steeply towards the sea.
