What is individualism?
Idea that individuals are encouraged to think for themselves. MacPherson- possessive individualism. Locke- 'Life. liberty, property'.

Idea that everybody is entitled to liberty but not complete. JJR- social contract. JSM- Harm principle.

Humans are rational and capable creatures. Opposite to Conservatism.

What is justice?
The idea of fair treatment. Rawls- welfare helps, Nozick- interferes with right to property.

What is toleration?
The idea of electoral competition and allowing different ideas.

What are Liberals views on democracy?
Strong and minimal star, respect for constitution. Hegel- Philosophy of Right (1821)

What is constitutionalism?
Prevents tyranny, external constraints, Montesquieu maxim 'power is a check on power'.
